Men’s Twilight League

Men’s Twilight League at Newport Country Club

League Results will be available here once play starts for the season.

Men’s Twilight League for 2024 will play every Tuesday at 5:15 pm, beginning on May 7th. The summer will be divided into 2 half-seasons lasting eight weeks each. Rain days will not extend the season.

The League is a weekly nine-hole match vying two-man teams in head-to-head competition. Prizes are awarded based on overall standings at the end of each half season. An optional skins game is available each week in each division at $5 per man. At summer’s end, a Banquet & Prize Night will be arranged for those who wish to participate at their own expense.

Twilight League dues are $65, trying to keep play affordable for all who want to participate; carts are available at a reduced rate. Dues must be paid at time of registration. All players, including all substitutes, must be paid members of Newport Country Club. Substitutes are exempt from the League dues, and cannot share in prizes other than closest to the pin and in the optional skins game. The League will pay out all dues money through division standings, weekly drawings and closest to pins. Prize payouts are totally dependent on the number of participants in the League.

The Twilight League will play two divisions, a Blue and a White Division in reference to the corresponding tee positions. Twilight League players will not play from the red or gold tees regardless of age ( * ). Seniors who record handicaps from the forward tees will have a handicap adjustment on the card for league play off the white or blue tees.

Once the total number of teams is established, half will play in the Blue Division and half in the White Division. The Blue Division will consist of the teams with the lowest combined team handicaps (using 100% of each man’s handicap). It is the League’s intent that no team would play the same team twice during the first 8 weeks of regular competition; week 9 will match up the leaders in each division regardless of prior play, i.e. the 2 top teams will compete with each other, continuing down the list so the two lowest scoring teams will also compete with each other.  No teams may switch divisions at mid-season.

Any team that does not show for play will forfeit all points for that day. Any team that finds the opponents are a “no show” must contact the Pro Shop (334-2391) prior to play, even if they have already taken to the course. The Pro Shop will determine a blind-draw opponent matched up against the unchallenged team. If one player on a team does not show up, the other teammate will play the opposing team; a substitute may stand in for any missing player. A team must have at least one regular member. There will no longer be an automatic 12- points for a team if the opposing team does not show up.

Each match will be a two-man best ball, low-net format, handicapped off the low player of the group. Two points are awarded to the team with the low score on each hole; a tie on a hole awards each team with one point and a loss gets zero points. The maximum score under this format is 18 points per week. Team standings are posted each week showing the point leaders in each division.
