President's Letter February 21, 2017

Greetings Members,

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has selected Diane Mcheffey, PGA/LPGA Class A, as our new Head Golf Professional. Diane accepted this position after many years as a club professional and golf and recreation industry business owner. Diane has roots in Rhode Island and after having worked many years in Florida and North Carolina, she was eager to get back to New England.

Diane enjoyed a college golf career at the San Diego State University. After college, she played professionally on several mini tours before building and developing her own successful golf training facility in North Carolina. There, she gained valuable experience in managing staff and operations, eventually selling the business after 11 successful years. Her career has seen her be selected as LPGA Teacher of the Year both nationally and regionally. Most recently she worked as a general manager and club professional at Florida Keys Country Club. Diane was selected after careful review and interview of several very qualified PGA applicants.

Diane will be tasked with the day to day oversight of the pro shop and restaurant. Along with managing and improving pro shop operations, Diane will be working closely with the House Committee on restaurant operations to improve service levels so that our members and guests can have the best possible experience at the club. We felt with the combination of her professional golf experience, as well as business and customer service knowledge and business development ideas, she will be the best fit for us moving forward.

Diane will be in the area around the 20th of March to get acclimated with the area and facility. I expect we will have an opening reception to introduce Diane to the members prior to season opening. Please join me in welcoming Diane Mcheffey to our Newport Country Club family. I am excited for what the future holds.

See you all soon.

Tom Howell
